Terms of Service
In short: HideBin is free to use. Your photos and videos stay yours, and you are responsible for what you store. Your passphrase and recovery key are the only ways into your vault: there is no reset, and we cannot recover a vault for you.
Agreement
These terms apply to your use of HideBin (“HideBin”, “we”, “us”), the encrypted photo and video gallery at hidebin.com (the “service”). By using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
The service
HideBin runs in your web browser. It encrypts the photos and videos you add on your device and stores them in your browser's private storage and, if you choose, in your own Google Drive. The service is provided free of charge. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it at any time.
Your passphrase and recovery key
- You choose a passphrase when you create a vault and receive a recovery key, which is shown once. Keep both safe.
- There is no reset. We never receive your passphrase, recovery key or private-album passphrases, so we cannot recover them or open your vault. If you lose your passphrase and your recovery key, your vault cannot be opened by anyone. Private albums cannot be opened with the recovery key at all.
- Anyone who has your passphrase or recovery key and a copy of your vault can open it. You are responsible for keeping them private and for the security of your devices.
Your content
- You keep all rights to the photos, videos and other files you store with HideBin. We claim no ownership of them and, because they are encrypted with keys only you hold, we cannot see them.
- You are responsible for your content and for having the right to store it. You agree not to use the service to store or distribute content that is illegal, including child sexual abuse material, or that infringes anyone else's rights.
Storage and backups
Without Google Drive, your vault exists only in the browser where you created it. Erasing it, clearing the browser's site data, or losing the device loses everything in it. Even with Drive, keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose. We are not responsible for lost data.
Google Drive
Drive sync is optional. When you connect it, you authorise HideBin to create and manage its own folder in your Google Drive, as described in our Privacy Policy. Your use of Google Drive is also governed by Google's Terms of Service, and the storage it uses counts toward your Google account's quota. You can disconnect Drive at any time.
Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the service: for example, by trying to disrupt it, gain unauthorised access to it or to other people's data, or use it in breach of any law.
No warranty
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that data will never be lost. HideBin has not had an independent security audit.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, HideBin will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, content, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the service, including loss of access to a vault because a passphrase or recovery key was lost. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not all apply to you; nothing in these terms limits rights you have under law that cannot be waived.
Stopping use
You can stop using HideBin at any time. To remove your data, use Erase vault from this device or Erase vault everywhere in Settings, and disconnect Drive.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using the service after a change, you accept the updated terms.
